It's been well over 60 years since the Volkswagen Beetle first arrived in the United States, and since that time, it's achieved exponential success. In fact, this style icon is one that drivers recognize because of its unique appearance. Matched with an equally spunky attitude, it won the hearts of many in the past and continues to do so today in the modern automotive arena.

Originally known as Type 1, the Volkswagen Beetle was first imported to New York City in 1949 for a Dutch businessman by the name of Ben Pon, Sr. This was followed by subsequent domestic purchases, ultimately paving the way for its sale in the United States. Eventually, the VW sensation led to the founding of its first-ever headquarters in America. It's estimated that approximately 300,000 Beetle models were sold by 1960.
Such a feat is evidence of the automaker's popularity among national consumers, and it is for this reason it still stands strong in the current market. The new Beetle is more impressive yet, with more power thanks to a turbocharged TSI engine and convenience thanks to technologies like VW Car-Net App-Connect. Without a doubt, this model will keep moving forward with confidence even in the future.
