Where the CC elevated the form of the Volkswagen brand as a Passat-based flagship, the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Arteon takes it to a whole other level. Beautiful exterior lines, a fastback shape, and an elegant take on the brand’s front end design make it a stand-out, but there’s more to this car than looks. In fact, all told, Car and Driver calls it the car you’re going to want to wait for in 2018.
Similar to how the Atlas is the SUV flagship of Volkswagen, the Arteon is the same for sedans. It rides on the automaker’s new MQB transverse-powertrain platform, and will primarily use a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four making 270 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. In test drives, the car handled with confidence and poise, and nary a hint of rattles or squeaks. It will also come with some of the latest tech, including Digital Cockpit, a wide suite of safety gear, and more. Best of all, it will come in both FWD and 4Motion AWD—the latter of which wasn’t offered in later models of its predecessor.
