What does mobility look like in the future? That’s a question Volkswagen is trying to answer with a series of all-electric concept vehicles, kicked off in 2016 with the I.D, then the I.D BUZZ in 2017, and most recently, the I.D CROZZ was unveiled at “Auto Shanghai 2017,” giving us one more futuristic Volkswagen concept vehicle to dream about. If you didn’t catch the unveiling live, check it out below to see the stunning all-electric crossover concept in detail, then join us below for some very interesting tidbits.
Details That Stand Out:
There’s a lot to take in with the I.D CROZZ concept vehicle, so we grabbed some of our favorite tidbits of information and distilled them down for you here:
- Goodbye range anxiety! The I.D CROZZ has an anticipated range of 311 miles on the New European Driving Cycle, and the battery can go from empty to 80% charged in just 30 minutes when using a 150-kilowatt DC fast charger.
- The I.D CROZZ ventures into autonomous driving territory with the “I.D Pilot” mode, which will instruct the vehicle to drive on its own.
- Despite being overall smaller, the I.D CROZZ features almost the same interior space as the 2018 long-wheelbase Volkswagen Tiguan! Talk about room to breathe!
- This all-electric crossover is no slouch! Its powertrain can churn out a lean 302 horsepower, with an anticipated top speed of 112 mph.
The MEB’s dynamic proportions provide an ideal platform for a carefully considered electric mobility design DNA. Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design for the Volkswagen Brand, explains: "If it was ever possible to make a one-hundred percent certain prediction of what the future will look like, here it is. In 2017, we are showing how Volkswagen will be transforming the roadscape from 2020. For us, the three prototypes of this new generation of zero-emission vehicles—I.D., I.D. BUZZ and I.D. CROZZ—mark the start of a design and technology revolution that is going to change individual mobility and the Volkswagen brand forever." —from an April 18, 2017 Volkswagen Press Release
