Never one to rest on its laurels, Volkswagen has recently added another concept vehicle to the I.D family of vehicles, which launched in 2016 with the I.D, then the I.D BUZZ in 2017, and finally the most recent concept, the I.D CROZZ, was unveiled at “Auto Shanghai 2017.” It’s aesthetically stunning, but despite how handsome it is, the most exciting part of the I.D CROZZ isn’t how it looks, it’s how it drives! Ready to catch a glimpse of the all-electric I.D CROZZ? Check out the unveiling in the video, then join us toward the bottom for even more tempting info about the new I.D CROZZ concept!
The I.D CROZZ rides atop Volkswagen’s new Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB), which is what gives it such an aesthetically pleasing long wheelbase. The platform also allows the compact battery and powertrain to sit beneath the flooring of the vehicle. With the battery beneath the floor, there’s a lot of usable space in the cabin of the I.D CROZZ. Despite being overall smaller than the 2018 long-wheelbase Volkswagen Tiguan, the I.D CROZZ offers just about the same amount of interior room! Not only will the I.D CROZZ offer a new way to ride, it’s powertrain will have you thinking differently about all-electric driving—with an estimated 302 horsepower, top speed of 112 mph, and 311 miles of range, driving electric will never be the same!
The MEB’s dynamic proportions provide an ideal platform for a carefully considered electric mobility design DNA. Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design for the Volkswagen Brand, explains: "If it was ever possible to make a one-hundred percent certain prediction of what the future will look like, here it is. In 2017, we are showing how Volkswagen will be transforming the roadscape from 2020. For us, the three prototypes of this new generation of zero-emission vehicles—I.D., I.D. BUZZ and I.D. CROZZ—mark the start of a design and technology revolution that is going to change individual mobility and the Volkswagen brand forever." —from an April 18, 2017 Volkswagen Press Release
